The Jerry Landess Series comprised the first five events on Hoosier Park's 13-race program Wednesday, April 5, with several lightly-raced sophomores claiming victory. The late closing series is for 3 and 4-year-old male pacers and consists of two $5,000 preliminary legs and a $12,000 final.

Hammurbi Bluegrass and Ricky Macomber Jr. narrowly won the first event on the program, putting a neck in front of Gallows Pole and Patrick Berry in 1:57.3. The Dr. Luel Overstreet-owned pacer was making his first career start. Soaring Viking and Jimmy Whisman finished third after leading early in the mile.

Hat-ies RC was impressive in the second split, winning by open lengths in a lifetime-best 1:55.3. The gelded son of The Wrath Of Pan, now a sophomore, is owned and trained by Billy Downs, who was also in the sulky for the victory. JD's Houdini and Don Eash were second while Berry guided Band Of Brothers to a third-place finish.

Electrifying Russ and Tom Luther captured a division with a 1:57 effort Wednesday. The Electric Yankee 3 year old, trained and co-owned by Russell Beeman with Melissa Goodman, finished 4 1/2 lengths in front of Boiler Gold and Macomber. Ironclad Alibi and Eash were third.

Do You Remember made bettors forget about the rest of the field, winning by eight lengths in a career-best 1:57.2 to secure the fourth split. Piloted by trainer Charlie Conrad the Carlsbad Cam sophomore bested Scudder, driven by Steve Pletcher, and Boys Don't Cry (Macomber).

In the fifth and final Landess Series division Tom's Wealth lowered his lifetime mark by nearly three seconds en route to a 1:57.2 score. Roy Wilson sat behind the Health And Wealth 2 year old. The gelding is owned by Phillip and Susan James. Skyway Spark was second for Berry and Electric Ace and trainer Jay Cross were third.
