Lantern Kronos swept three wide around the last turn, took the lead in mid stretch and cruised to a career-best 1:53 victory in the $166,000 World filly Trotting Derby Friday afternoon at the DuQuoin State Fair. Poster Pin Up was second and Saorse was placed third after Two Nts With Her crossed the finish line third but was placed eighth for interference early in the stretch. Trainer Jimmy Takter was in the bike as Lantern Kronos settled in the back of the field after leaving from post seven. “I had the stop watch with me and I know they were going plenty that they would come back to me,” Takter said. The early fractions of :26.3, :54.4 and 1:24.3 had Diana Hall and Dave Magee on the front end most of the way. Approaching the three-quarter station Takter tipped the daughter of Swedish sire Viking Kronos three wide and by the top of the lane she had dead aim on the lead and left the rest of the field in wake. The victory was 10th of the year in 12 starts and increased her earnings this year to $747,869 and $776,469 lifetime for her owner,
