After prevailing just twice in the first 54 starts of his career, the 5-year-old pacer La Rock has now visited the winner’s circle in each of his last two outings following a 1:57.2 victory in the featured $5,500 non-winners pace at Saratoga Gaming and Raceway on Wednesday. Driven from post three by Jim Devaux, La Rock was parked on the lead through an opening quarter mile in :28.2 but was content to yield the top spot to an aggressively-handled Fantastic Move (Jay Randall), who circled the field to claim the front through middle fractions of :57.3 and 1:26.2. As the field paced through the final turn, La Rock vacated the pocket to make his second move of the mile, charging past a tiring Fantastic Move to claim the lead at the top of the stretch before sprinting clear of the field in the final yards to prevail by 1 ½ lengths at the wire. La Rock returned $6.80, $3.30, and $2.70 for the victory. X Dreams (Mickey McGivern) brought in $5.40 and $4 when finishing second, while Fantastic Move brought in $16.20 for third. Owned by G. Russell Austin, and trained by George Merton Jr., La Rock owns a career record of four wins from 54 starts, hitting the board on 24 occasions while amassing over $57,000 in lifetime earnings.
