Late-closers take Eternal Camnation

August 18, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Two of the three C$122,367 Eternal Camnation divisions at Mohawk Saturday favored late-closers as the first two divisional winners, Thong and Good News Lady came up late to win their respective races in 1:53.4 and 1:55.  Victim of Love held off a late drive to win the last division in 1:54.2.

With the race favorite boxed in, it looked like Cartniverous would upset and win the first division of the Eternal Camnation.  But finding room in near impossible situations seems to be the ticket for some of Tim Tetrick’s success and he did it again with Thong, winning in 1:53.4.

Getting away second to the :27.2 quarter, Thong followed Arts Michelle (Rick Zeron).  Chocolate Art pulled and the field was stacked two across the track.  Coming down the stretch it looked like driver Luc Ouelette had Cartniverous heading to the winners circle, but Tetrick and Thong were able to back out of trouble and fire past to win by a quarter length.

This win, a new lifetime mark, marks the Western Hanover filly’s second in four starts for owner Jason Lynch and owner/trainer Alton Lynch Jr.  Thong was a $16,000 Harrisburg yearling sale purchase.

Cartniverous did finish second with Lilbitfasternow and Mark MacDonald finishing third.

Good News Lady and Jody Jamieson picked up the second division in 1:55 after being fifth midway down the stretch.  That late closing drive picked off pace-setter All Accounted For (John Campbell) who held on for second.

Lightning Glory walked to the opening quarter of :29.3 at which Jamieson had Good News Lady sitting sixth.  Campbell pulled All Accounted For from the pocket and going to the three quarters Timeless Artist and Ron Pierce pulled, with Good News Lady picking up that cover.

This win marked the second in a row for Good News Lady over the Mohawk oval for trainer Jimmy Takter and owners Brittany Farms, Val D Or Farms and Christina Takter.  Good News Lady was a $130,000 Lexington Select sale purchase.

Victim of Love won her division in 1:54.2 after shooting to the front after the half for driver Mark MacDonald.  She held of a late bid by George Brennan when he found a hole up the inside lane with Worldly Treasure, but it was too late.  Victim of Love won by a neck, now a perfect four wins in four starts this year.  This win marked a new lifetime mark for the No Pan Intended filly who is trained by Erv Miller for Perfect World Enterprises.

Red in the Face and Randy Waples finished third but was disqualified sixth after causing interference with Jacks Place and Jody Jamieson.  Enniscrone (Tim Tetrick) was fourth placed third and B M MCW (Paul MacDonald) was fifth placed fourth.
