Trailing by six lengths at the half, Michaelrowyourboat unleashed a powerful close that carried him to victory in the $25,000 Preferred Handicap Trot Wednesday at The Meadows.

When 3-5 favorite Primo Spur took the field through a comfortable half in :59, it appeared that the race was for place. But Michaelrowyourboat responded to the urging of trainer-driver Jimmy Smith and sailed by Primo Spur, holding off the equally hard-charging Oatmeister by a head in 1:55.3. Primo Spur saved show.

Flowing Mineral Farm owns Michaelrowyourboat, a 4-year-old gelded son of Victory Sam-Tall Sunflower, who lowered his lifetime mark two ticks and triumphed for the 14th time in 2008-2009.

In the $25,000 Filly and Mare Preferred Trot, I’m Justa Lady served notice early that she was the best when she pocketed the venerable Whotookwhat. I’m Justa Lady, an 8-year-old daughter of Inquirer-Quite Becoming, went on to victory in 1:56.3, 1-1/2 lengths better than Tom’s OK Lady, while Whotookwhat saved show. That gave Inquirer a 1-2-3 sire’s sweep in the event.

Tony Hall drove I’m Justa Lady for trainer Bill Daumit and owners Janet Collins and Patricia Daumit. With her show finish, the 7-year-old Whotookwhat surpassed $600,000 in career earnings. (The Meadows)
