Laughing to the finish line in Confederation Cup

In a race to the finish, Laughing Art came up the inside to take the 31st Confederation Cup final in 1:53.3 at Flamboro Sunday evening.

Domitian Hanover cut the mile in the $548,500(C) contest, heading to the quarter in :27.4.  Forensic Z Tam was the first to pull and he flushed out Artriverderci to a :56.4 half.  Sitting in the pocket, Jody Jamieson had Laughing Art in perfect striking distance as the field was four in and four out at the half.  Sergei Seelster came three wide around the last turn to make a bid for the front as Laughing Art came up the passing lane.

Domitian Hanover and Mark MacDonald held on for second with Forensic Z Tam and Pat Lachance coming on for third.

White Birch Farm bred the Artsplace colt out of the Die Laughing mare Laughing Pro.  Laughing Pro is out of the two-time Breeders Crown winner Town Pro, who also produced Darlins Delight and Ameripan Gigolo.  Bill Elliott trains for Antonio Chiaravalle of Hamilton, Ontario.  Jamieson, who last drove Laughing Art in the Monticello Gold Rush Final, has been the leading dash winning driver at Flamboro for the past four seasons.

“I was trying to leave as hard as I could and hopefully get on his (Domitian Hanover’s) back,” Jamieson stated.  “Domitian Hanover is a tough little horse and a great little horse.  I knew that if I got on his back, I’d have a shot.  I didn’t know if I’d win from there but I knew I had a shot.

“Sometimes racing up the passing lanes, you can pull horses into the passing lane too quick and lose their momentum.  But I’ve had lots of practice around here and we got into the passing lane real clean and he just dug through.  That horse was great.  It’s just a dream come true to win the Confederation Cup on my home track.  It’s unbelievable.”
