Lawman trotted a last quarter in :27.3 and held off Lets Get Serious by one-half length to win the $20,000 opening leg of the Father Foley Memorial Series in 1:53.4 Wednesday night at the Meadowlands. With Eric Goodell in the bike, Lawman moved up from the back of the field on the backstretch, taking the lead from Lets Get Serious and Yannick Gingras after the :58.1 half. The two trotters pulled away from the rest of the field as Lets Get Serious battled back to finish just one-half length behind the winner. Ripped and John Campbell were six lengths back in third. Owned by the Let It Ride Stables Inc., the Robert Cooper Stables LLc and Shari Watchman, Lawman is a 7-year-old Malabar Man stallion trained by Ross Croghan. The victory was his fourth this year in seven starts.
In the second split of the Father Foley, Swan Image drew off to a three-length victory over Muscles Marinara in 1:52.1.
David Miller was in the bike as Swan Image swept past the pace-setting Cayenne Turbo and Andy Miller in the stretch to grab his third win of the year in six starts and give Croghan a sweep of the series divisions. Lawrence Roman owns the 5-year-old Balanced Image stallion.
