Former trainer-driver Robert A. Davenport died Wednesday, May 19, at The Arbors of Delaware. He was 85.
Mr. Davenport was born Nov. 20, 1924, and served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon retiring as a model designer from Ranco Inc., he started training and driving Standardbreds. He conditioned May Bloom p, 3, 1:57.2f ($70,584), Mickey Bloom ($33,150) and Duchess Time ($21,010).
Mr. Davenport was a member of The Little Brown Jug Society and served as an honorary member of the Delaware County Fair Board.
He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Hines; two granddaughters, Chris (Bill) Storms and Susan (Eric) Leonard, all of Delaware; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Norma, in 2002; one sister and five brothers.
