Lear Jetta named Pa. Sire Stakes Horse of the Year

A son of Lindy Lane named Lear Jetta certainly jetted past his Pennsylvania Sire Stakes competition in the freshman trotting ranks in 2007, earning him distinction as not only Pa. Sire Stakes Trotter of the Year, but also Pa. Sire Stakes Horse of the Year overall.

Owned by nonagenarian James McAuliffe and trained by “trottin’ hoss” veteran Bob Myers Sr., Lear Jetta won 11 of 13 races in his initial campaign, earning $370,513. All four of his Pennsylvania Sire Stakes starts were victories, including the Sept. 27 Championship at Harrah’s Chester where he trotted the mile in 1:55.3f to equal the divisional world record set by Adrian Chip at Dover Downs a year earlier.

Just for good measure, Lear Jetta also was a stakes winner in Maryland, Delaware, and New Jersey, in addition to winning the Reynolds and the Keystone Classic in Pennsylvania.

And just in case you fancied purchasing a top trotting colt, look for another: Mr. McAuliffe doesn’t need the money, and is receiving a great deal of happiness from Lear Jetta’s racetrack exploits–which now encompass Pennsylvania Sire Stakes Trotting Horse of the Year and overall Pennsylvania Sire Stakes Horse of the Year.

Lear Jetta, and other stars of the past season in Pennsylvania racing, will be honored at the first annual “Celebration of Pennsylvania Harness Racing,” to be held Sunday, Feb. 10, at Harrah’s Chester racetrack near Philadelphia.

Tickets, which cost $25, and other information can be obtained from Sandy Tetkoskie or Fonda Civitello of the Harrisburg Commission office at (717) 783-6320. (PHRC)
