The Dayton Daily News is reporting that Susan L. Wilson, formerly the vice president of racing and simulcasting at Lebanon Raceway, has been charged with embezzling $111,943 from the Lebanon Trotting Club and the Miami Valley Trotting Club, which operated the two meets at the Ohio racetrack.
According to the report, Wilson, 48, was indicted on two counts of grand theft and two counts of unauthorized use of property. It is alleged she embezzled the money by writing 119 checks made out to horse owners and then cashing them, including forging her husband's signature.
The funds were allegedly embezzled from October 2010 to December 2012, with the discrepancy discovered midway through 2013 during accounting that was done prior to the sale of Lebanon Raceway to Churchill Downs Inc. and Delaware North. Since that time, Lebanon Raceway was closed and a new site on the other side of the city opened its first-ever race meet earlier this month.
