The Ohio Standardbred Development Fund has announced that the 2010 Ohio Sire Stakes finals will be held on Saturday, Oct. 9, at Lebanon Raceway with guaranteed purses of $75,000.
At a special meeting held today in Columbus, the OSDF Committee voted 3-0 to award the eight finals for 2 and 3 year olds to Lebanon after the track agreed to guarantee the purses.
Tom Fries Jr., the executive director of the Ohio State Racing Commission, approved the plan, which will be ratified at the regular January meeting of the OSRC. Earlier this month, the OSDF Committee voted 2-1 to hold Super Night on Sept. 4 at Scioto Downs, but holding off paying the purses until Oct. 10, to enable the purse to be at a higher level. However, on Dec. 15, the OSRC did not approve the OSDF’s condition of holding off paying the purses until October and gave the OSDF the following four options to choose from:
Option four was named the winner after Lebanon Raceway management agreed to the OSRC's stipulation that the track guarantee the purses. (USTA)
