Lederman goes Xtreme

Georgian Downs is pleased to confirm that announcer Larry Lederman will make a one-time trip to Canada to call its Xtreme Horsepower event on July 14.

“We’re programming a card of extreme racing, so we thought we better attract an extreme announcer,” said Chris Roberts, director of operations at Georgian Downs.  “Larry is among the funniest, most animated racecallers in the business and we’re thrilled to have him on board for this great event.”

Lederman, the longtime racecaller at the now-defunct Garden State Park and the current voice of Freehold Raceway has been calling harness and Thoroughbred races since 1985. His unique style has earned him a reputation as one of the sport’s premier personalities.

Xtreme Horsepower will feature an assortment of odd distance races and huge field sizes. Race distances will vary from an eighth of a mile to 3 1/8 miles. The experimental race card will also feature heat racing, an invitational match race and an Ontario Sire Stakes Gold Series final for 3-year-old pacing colts.

“Xtreme Horsepower has been in the works for well over a year,” said Roberts. “We’re now in the process of putting the finishing touches on the day’s festivities–one of which was finding the right voice for a racing program as radical as this one. We’ve definitely got the right man for the job.” (Georgian Downs)
