Ledford approved in Pennsylvania, listed to drive at The Meadows

Pennsylvania State Harness Racing Commission executive director Anton Leppler confirmed to harnessracing.com Tuesday afternoon that Eric Ledford has been approved to race in Pennsylvania and is listed to drive one horse on Friday night at The Meadows. Ledford is scheduled to drive Cher Bono for trainer Mark Goldberg, a 5-year-old pacing mare who won her last start Nov. 28 at The Meadows, and has also picked up two more drives since the original entry sheet was released.

The 37-year-old Ledford was initially suspended by the New Jersey Racing Commission for 10 � years and fined $12,000 after being arrested on March 2006 and subsequently pleading guilty to one count of possession of a controlled substance. He received a criminal sentence of one-year probation and a $15,000 fine.

Ledford appealed the New Jersey racing license suspension, which was later reduced to a one-year suspension and $9,000 fine. He was then re-licensed in New Jersey last January, nine months after his criminal probation period expired. After having limited success at the Meadowlands, Ledford took some time off and then was licensed to race in Maryland, where he became the leading driver at Ocean Downs in wins and purse earnings for the 2008 season.

According to Harrah's Chester race secretary Rick Kane, Ledford has not submitted an application to race at that track, which is scheduled to close for the 2008 season on Dec. 18.

Overall, Ledford has made 363 starts this year with 66 wins and $256,847 in purse earnings.
