Let's go flyin at Chester

Benefitting from an adept drive by national leader Tony Morgan, 7-year-old mare Go Flyin N took advantage of some fast early fractions to pick up the pieces in the late stages as she captured the $46,400 Meadow Blue Chip final at Harrah’s Chester Casino & Racetrack on Monday. Owned by Lester Wells and Jack Upchurch, Go Flyin N earned $23,200 for her efforts and pushed her career bankroll over the $200,000 mark.

Sent off at odds of almost 25-1, Go Flyin N was seventh early, eight lengths behind a percolating speed duel involving 4-5 favorite L Dee's Val and 2-1 second-choice Misbet. After an initial quarter-mile of :27.1 set by Cajun Laagacy, the favored duo drew off and engaged in a battle of their own, stopping the timer in :56.1 for the half-mile and 1:23.4 for the three-quarters.

Go Flyin N, meanwhile, was shifting to the outer flow and picking up third-over cover while steadily making up ground. At the top of the stretch, Morgan angled sharply towards an open lane along the pylons and closed resolutely to be up by a head in 1:53.4. Misbet fought gamely to be second, with 82-1 shot My Miss C’s Hero rallying for third. L Dee's Val was fourth.

Go Flyin N was third behind the victorious Misbet in her first leg division of the Meadow Blue Chip on Nov. 20, and second to Heathers Gambit in a second-leg division contested on Nov. 27. Trained by Wayne Whitson Jr., Go Flyin N registered her seventh victory of 2006 in the Meadow Blue Chip.

The Meadow Blue Chip was the second late closer final to have been contested thus far at Harrah’s Chester. The series was restricted to filly and mare pacers who had not won $75,000 in 2006 as of Oct. 1. (Harrah's Chester)
