The 2008 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale was completed at the Fasig-Tipton Pavilion Sunday, and when the numbers were tallied, a total of 793 horses were sold for an average price of $40,494, a drop of 10.1 percent from the 2007 average. The average price, however, was still ahead of the 2006 average of $39,117, and gross sales also outpaced 2006 ($32.1 million in '08 versus $30.7 in '06).
This final session for this year's sale helped keep the drop in the 10 percent range as the 238 yearlings sold on Sunday brought an average of $16,861, a figure that was up 9.4 percent from last year's average of $15,419 for 222 yearlings.
