Life Source, under intense pressure both to his inside and on the outside, was dead game down the lane and held on to capture the $225,000 Graduate final in 1:50.4 at the Meadowlands Saturday night.

George Brennan had the lines as the 8-year-old Life Sign gelding moved out of the pocket at the :26.4 quarter and swept past Metropolitan (David Miller) into the lead. He took the field past the half in :54.2 and was matched stride for stride by Casimir Camotion and Pat Lachance at the 1:22.2 three quarters.

In the lane Casamir Camotion held steady while Boulder Creek and Brian Sears mounted a challenge, with Driven To Win and Mike Lachance coming on the far outside and Metropolitan trying to rally up the pylons. But Life Source would not yield, scoring his sixth win of the year in 16 starts over Boulder Creek, with Metropolitan third.

"He fought very hard tonight," said owner Richard T. Branca of Life Source. "I was real proud of him." Then he added, "I thought we were done," when asked of his chances when Life Source reached the seven furlong mark.

With the victory Life Source reached $1,807,225 in lifetime earnings for trainer Richard J. Banca.
