After being a frustrating second in the first two legs of the series, the Lindy Lane-sired Pembroke Lane picked the right time to break through, roaring down the stretch to capture the $33,800 final of the South Strabane Trot for 3-year-old colts and geldings on Tuesday at The Meadows. Pembroke Lane finished a close second to Casperdfrendlyhors in the qualifying legs, beaten only a length and a head, but when that rival broke stride on the lead as the 1-2 favourite on Tuesday, Pembroke Lane and Mike Wilder pounced on the opportunity, drawing off to win by three and a quarter lengths in 1:58.3. Good Will was second, with Muscles Rule third. Randy Bendis trains Pembroke Lane and also co-owns the trotter with partner Bill Varney. After winning 11 races on Monday afternoon, Dave Palone won seven more on Tuesday, pushing his season total to 280. That total leads all of North America so far in 2008. (The Meadows)
