John Campbell had it happen to him a couple of weeks ago at the Meadowlands and now Jack Moiseyev went through the same experience at Mohawk: a broken line that resulted in a runaway horse and the declaration by the stewards for the race to be “no contest.” The incident occurred in Thursday night’s first race at Mohawk when the line on the 3-year-old filly trotter Loch Katrine broke behind the gate. Loch Katrine bothered several of the other horses before running off at full-tilt speed. Although the race continued despite the runaway horse and the two outriders futilely trying to catch her, the stewards determined the early interference played a significant role and ordered all monies refunded. As for Loch Katrine, she completed the race and then pulled herself up just as the other horses were doing after passing the finish line.
