Jim Linscott, longtime track photographer at Hoosier Park, died unexpectedly of natural causes last Saturday, at his home in Chesterfield, Ind. Linscott was 54.

A native of Amesville, Ohio, Mr. Linscott first came into the horse racing scene by serving as the track photographer for several southern Ohio county fairs following his graduation from Hocking College. Mr. Linscott, assisted by Inez Linscott, soon expanded to include county fair circuits in Pennsylvania, Indiana, West Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia and Kentucky and later incorporated photo finish duties into his business.

Mr. Linscott accepted the track photographer’s position at Hoosier Park in 1996. Prior to his arrival, he served in similar positions at Thistledown, Northfield Park, Lebanon Raceway, and photo finish at Scioto Downs. In addition to Hoosier Park, Linscott provided winner’s circle photos for the Nebraska circuit.

Mr. Linscott is survived by his mother and father, James Paul and Wahneta Linscott, along with four daughters, Gretchen, Abbe (fiancé Jim Lackmeyer), and twins Jamie and Katie (husband Joe Starkey). Also surviving is Inez Linscott and one sister, Jane Linscott. He had one granddaughter, Taylor Janel Starkey, born Sept. 27, 2006.

Arrangements for Mr. Linscott will be held at Jagers Funeral Home in Athens, Ohio. Visitation will be held Friday, Jan. 5, from 2 until 4 p.m. and again from 6 until 8 p.m. Arrangements for a memorial service in Anderson, Ind. will be announced at a later date.
