Lisa America, one of the top trotting mares in Europe the past few seasons, has been retired from racing. Jerry Riordan has trained the 7-year-old Varenne mare in Italy for Lou Guida's Guida Italia. She competed in the Prix d'Amerique on Sunday, but despite a trip in the pocket, she finished poorly.
Lisa America earned approximately $1.9 million, took a mark of 1:52.4, and won the Oslo Grand Prix and Aby Stora Prize, in addition to stakes in Italy and top finishes in other notable events.
Bred by Guida Italia, Lisa America is out of the Victory Dream mare Zagabria Dei. Riordan told European trotting media that Swede Lutfi Kolgini is still trying to finalize a deal to buy Lisa America as a broodmare.
