Lislea Phia upsets in Matron 3YO Filly Pace

With a quick jerk on the left line, driver Tim Tetrick steered Lisalea Phia to an inside lane and the filly got up in time to pull off an $86.60 upset in the $199,188 Matron for 3-year-old pacing fillies Sunday night at Dover Downs.

The 25-1 shot Before Dawn took the early lead, then yielded to 5-2 shot Alexis Hall passing the stands. By the time Alexis Hall reached the half in :55.2 an outer tier had developed with betting favorite Hana Hanover first-over and the highly respected Little Miss Dragon third-over in the flow.

At the three-quarter mark (1:22.3) Hana Hanover pulled even with Alexis Hall and John Campbell had Little Miss Dragon in position for a rally. Tetrick had the option of following Campbell, but instead shot his filly to the inside. Lislea Phia responded with an incredibly quick burst of speed to win.

Yonkers Raceway president Tim Rooney bred and owns Lislea Phia, a filly by the Rooney-bred stallion Lislea. Harry Harvey trains the filly who now has eight wins in 22 starts this season.

Little Miss Dragon finished second while Hana Hanover held on for third. More bad luck plagued trainer George Teague Jr. as he had to scratch his filly Isabella Blue Chip from the race. On Saturday Teague's Badlands Nitro, favored to win the Matron 2-Year-Old Colt Pace, was interferred with and lost all chance, and earlier in the week his Matron entry Timeless Winner died while turned out in a paddock.
