Lis Mara in WR 1:47.3

Lis Mara equaled the world record for 4-year-old pacing horses and tied the Meadowlands all-age track record with a 1:47.3 victory in the $500,000 Breeders Crown final for older pacing horses Saturday. Brian Sears maneuvered the son of Cambest into second-over position behind torrid fractions and then swung wide in the final turn to go on to the record-setting win.

Dr. No made the front from post 10 for driver Cat Manzi and then let Boulder Creek and driver Daniel Dube take over past the :25.2 quarter. A first-over He Wants It All (Tony Morgan) was unable to clear as the half was reached in :52.2 and three-quarters in 1:20.2. Sears tipped his charge around the tiring leaders to go on to the 1 1/2-length decision over Holborn Hanover (George Brennan) with Leading X Ample (David Miller) third.

The 1:47.3 clocking equaled the divisional world record and Meadowlands mark set by Jenna's Beach Boy. The time was just one-fifth of a second off the all-age race mark set by Primetime Bobcat earlier this year.

The win was the fourth in a row for Lis Mara, a streak that began in the $830,000 Canadian Pacing Derby final. His 2006 earnings vaulted past the $780,000 mark and his career earnings moved to $968,798. Erv Miller trains for owners MJG Racing Stables and Andy Willinger.
