October 12, 2007 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Kentuckiana Farms has announced that Lis Mara, last season's Older  Pacer of the Year in both the U.S. and Canada, will stand the 2008 breeding season at Kentuckiana Farms of Ontario, located at Emerald Ridge Farm of Rockwood, Ont. Kentuckiana Farms will serve as syndicate manager and along with Emerald Ridge Farm will manage his breeding career.

Lis Mara, a son of Cambest out of the Abercrombie mare Lisheen, will retire at the end of the current racing season. He is a two-time world champion with career earnings of $2,220,674 and a lifetime mark of 1:47.3.

In 2006 Lis Mara, who was a stakes winner at age three, burst onto the free-for-all scene, winning $1,042,100. Lis Mara won the elimination and final of the Breeders Crown, the Canadian Pacing Derby final, the Des Smith Memorial, and the American National. His 2006 world record Breeders Crown win (1:47.3) was the fastest mile in the history of that prestigious race. This year Lis Mara followed up his championship 2006 season by earning $958,671 while becoming the first horse in 20 years to defend his Canadian Pacing Derby title.

Lis Mara's three 1:48 or faster wins are more than any horse in harness racing history as are his 16 career sub-1:50 wins.  LIS MARA’S streak of 14 consecutive sub-1:50 miles is also the longest in the history of the sport.

Lis Mara is owned by MJG Racing, Stables, Inc. and Andy Willinger. The 2008 service fee for Lis Mara will be $7,000. Syndication plans are available upon request. (Kentuckiana Farms press release)
