November 05, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

World records were re-written in 2006 Matron Stakes eliminations at Dover Downs on Saturday, Nov 4, as Little Miss Dragon (1:52.2) and Adrian Chip (1:55.3) are the new additions to the all-time fastest freshman class in the filly pace and colt trot categories.

Last November, My Little Dragon, owned by Adam Victor & Son Stable, of New York, NY, won the Matron freshman filly pace with Hall of Famer Ron Pierce driving in 1:52.3 world record time. Now, 12 months later, in one of two $33,587 Matron elims, Little Miss Dragon, another Dragon Again youngster bettered the former record by one-fifth of a second for all the same connections as last season. It was Little Miss Dragon's fourth win in seven lifetime starts and ups her career bankroll to $253,503 in her rookie season. Tidewaterdragonfly finished a game second for Dave Palone while Catch The Show, with Brian Sears, was third.

Isabella Blue Chip scored her sixth win of the campaign with David Miller steering the Bettor's Delight filly to a 1:52.4 game-to-wire victory. The George Teague trainee is owned by Only Money Inc. of Hartly, Del. and Teague Inc. of Houston, Del. who now has been in the money in 11 of 12 starts has won $417,907 in purses. Jayne's Character stalked the winner from the start and finished second for Brian Sears. Current Hanover and George Brennan was the show horse.

Adrian Chip was at the top of his game in a $34,937 Matron Colt trot taking no prisoners in a 1:55.3 world record performance erasing Here Comes Herbie's previous mark. Per Henriksen trains and reins the Andover Hall colt for Ernie Gerbaulet of Recklinghausen, Germany. Snowboarder, driven by Dave Palone was runner-up. Gladiator Lindy and Mike Lachance were third.

In the other Matron Colt trot elim, owner, trainer, driver Toby Lynch of Delmar, Del. took Stunt Man Hall to the top at the start and scored an easy 1:58.2 victory. It was the Conway Hall two-year-old's third win giving him seasonal earnings of $155,893.

Dream N Lindy, overlooked at 7-1, with Dave Palone, driving for trainer Jimmy Takter and owner Hatfield Stables of Columbus, Oh., held off Celebrity Speedie with Marcus Johannson in the bike, to notch a 1:58.2 triumph in a $23,525 Matron Filly trot. Undercover Love, with Tony Morgan driving, was the race favorite and led until mid stretch before yielding to finish third.

Speed was premium in two $36,862 Colt pace divisions. Kal Liebowitz of New York and Marc Rubach of New Jersey own the Artiscape colt trained by Dylan Davis who blitzed around the clubhouse turn for Jack Moiseyev to get the lead and then controlled the pace and waltzed home a 1:52.4 winner. Pandorosa Sox with David Miller finished second in front of Honky Tank Hanover and Brian Sears. Southwind Lynx was a pre-race scratch.

In the other Colt elm, Takeshigemichi enjoyed an enviable trip behind pace setting Olay Olay and Hall of Fame driver Cat Manzi until the stretch when Daniel Dube pulled The Panderosa youngster to the outside and to a fast 1:52.3 victory. Olay Olay held on for second with Ghee's House with Ron Pierce, the third-place finisher.

The top eight finishers return next Saturday, Nov. 11, for lucrative Matron finals each for more than $200,000.

Toby Lynch had an owner, trainer, driver double, while Mike Lachance, Jack Moiseyev and Ross Wolfenden had driving doubles.
