Six weeks ago the veteran trotting mare, Lively Moment, set a world record at Monticello Raceway at a distance of 1 3/4 miles on a half-mile track. Since then Tommy Carpenito’s King of the Castle Stable’s stalwart has been first, second and third in her following starts, that is until Thursday when the 6-year-old daughter of Master Lavec put the skids to Getthemoney and copped the weekly winners-over trot.
Driven conservatively by Kyle DiBenedetto, Lively Moment got away in third position from the three hole and lumbered along following the leaders until the three-quarter pole at which point DiBenedetto moved her alongside Getthemoney (Bruce Aldrich Jr.) who was trotting along is second position behind the pacesetter, Buck ID (Billy Parker Jr.).
With a burst of speed Lively Moment trotted around the leaders and opened up daylight as she headed for home. Getthemoney was caught in behind the tiring Buck ID but it didn’t matter because the afternoon belonged to Lively Moment. Though Getthemoney made a charge down the lane Lively Moment was the best that day and rolled on to an easy 2:00 victory. Getthemoney ended up second and Walden and Billy Dobson finished third, some five lengths behind the winner. Lively Moment’s victory released the stranglehold that Getthemoney had on the best trotters on the ground after the veteran trotter had racked up four victories and a second and third-place finish in his last six starts here prior to Thursday's race.
Trained by Bob Lounsbury Lively Moment paid $8 for win. (Monticello)
