Live Out Loud sweeps

February 26, 2005 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Live Out Loud tipped off cover third-over at the head of the stretch, charged down the middle of the homestretch and held off Driven To Win by less than a length to win the $78,250 Aquarius Series final in 1:50.2 Saturday night at the Meadowlands.

Patrick Lachance, who became the first trainer-driver to take the Aquarius final in 18 years, settled fifth while Brandon's Cowboy took the field to the quarter in :27.1 then yielded to Town Champion at the half in :54. The three quarters was passed in 1:22.3 and the field fanned out with Live Out Loud four wide.

The 4-year-old Art's Conquest gelding was the fastest in the lane, getting home in a career best to sweep the series and push his lifetime earnings over the $300,000 mark. The time also equaled the series record.

Lachance picked up the horse before the series and knew nothing about him. "The rumor was that he was no good on the big track, but he showed different, obviously," Lachance said. "He likes to be covered up and he fires off cover pretty good.

"Dave McCaffrey deserves the credit," Lachance added, "because he got him ready. He sent him out (from Chicago) in perfect shape."

McCaffrey owns the winner with Bill Matz' and Cary Potkin's M & M Harness Racing.
