Local star hopes to shine in Hoosier Cup

The 14th  annual Hoosier Cup is scheduled to take place Saturday, May 29. The host track, Hoosier Park Racing and Casino, looks forward to yet another exciting, competitive, and let us not forget lucrative racing day in Anderson, Ind. Racing Secretary Kevin Mack compiled the final lineup Wednesday, May 26 for the $500,000 event for three-year-old colts and geldings.

One hopeful horse on the list of eligible pacers is Hoosier Park’s very own Allthatgltrsisgold. Owned by Dr. Jeff and Dr. Maria King’s Victory Hill Farm of LaGrange, Ind., the colt is trained by Bobby Brower and driven lately by Hall Of Fame Driver Dave Magee, who will once again get the call for the Hoosier Cup. Allthatgltrsisgold has had four starts this year in Anderson and will look to use the home track to his advantage.

When asked how he liked the chances of Allthatgltrsisgold prior to Wednesday’s draw, Brower replied, “If he can draw well and make a good trip out of it, we wouldn’t be surprised to see him bring it home. He’s not really a front end horse. He likes coming up from behind, so hopefully we can get a little racing luck.”

However, Allthatgltrsisgold did show a little versatility in his last outing. Magee drove the horse to victory in his last start Saturday, May 22 from the front. Starting in post position one, the son of Cam’s Card Shark made his move just past the quarter pole. After quickly moving into first, the colt didn’t give up the lead, outpacing Sam’s Escape and Don Eash down the stretch. The duo of Mypanmar and Peter Wrenn finished third.

“He (Allthatgltrsisgold) can be aggressive at times, but when he settles in, he’s a solid horse,” said Magee, who has more than 11,000 career wins. “He could be a little less aggressive, but he’s always manageable and with the right trip, he can go with the best of them.”

Magee showed additional confidence in the colt when he was named on two horses for the $500,000 Hoosier Cup. Magee chose Allthatgltrsisgold as his charge for the race over Touch The Rock, who comes in from Canada on a two-race win streak. At odds of 3-1, Allthatgltrsisgold will begin from post nine, the far outside position behind the starting gate. Despite the bad draw, the colt has been selected as the third choice on the morning line in the full field of 12.

Regardless of the starting spot, Allthatgltrsisgold and Magee have been right on track in preparation for the Hoosier Cup. Brower has been timing his training schedule all year with his eye on the prize in the event that is Indiana’s richest harness race.

Carded as the 13th race on the 14-race program, the Hoosier Cup will have an estimated post time of 9:35 p.m. Racing begins at 5:30 p.m. and will feature 12 preliminary rounds of Indiana Sires Stakes. Total purses for the evening are just over the $1 million mark.(Hoosier)
