Lofty Widget continues her impressive record at Dover Downs winning for the third time in four starts, this time taking the $26,000 Mares Open Handicap with a 1:53 performance on Tuesday night. Also on Tuesday night at Dover, Alpine Gold N won the $23,000 Mares Jr. Open. Ron Pierce and Corey Callahan had driving triples.
Corey Callahan drove Lofty Widget between horses in deep stretch to streak to another victory. Owned by Gary Evans and Foulk Stables, Lofty Widget stepped up after a win last week in the $22,000 Mares Jr. Open to win for the third time this meet with two seconds and a third in her six races. G.Brit Evans trains the 7-year-old Pacific Fella-Lofty Aspirations mare.
Another steady female, Alice's Restaurant, driven by Tony Morgan finished second for the third consecutive time. Gabrielles Girl close fast for Eric Goodell to finish third. The win was Callahan's second of three on the program.
Alpine Gold N made it two victories in her last four starts winning the $23,000 Mares Jr. Open Tim Curtin drove the Life Sign-Double Rose six-year-old from off the pace coming three wide around the final turn and then passing Pacific Philly, second with Eddie Davis Jr., and leader Kellytuck Sophie and Jon Roberts in deep stretch for the 1:53.1 win. Kathleen Beegle, Neil Chesen and Wayne Hurtibise own the winner.
Lloyd Arnold's Delightful Diva and Tony Morgan dropped a notch from the Jr. Open to score a 1:55.1 triumph in an $18,000 distaff pace. The Bettor's Delight-Mellowood Abby five-year-old held off Boca Hanover (Frank Milby) ending her two-race win streak. Sportsfancy (Eric Goodell) closed to finished third.
A 67-1 shot, Litigator, had just enough to catch front trotting Bengali (Ron Pierce) in the final strides for a 1:57.2 victory in a $12,500 trot. Good Feeling (Corey Callahan) was the show horse. Dave Buttaro owns the Valley Victor-Wall Street Floozy gelding, now a winner of both his starts this year.
Ron Pierce scored his third win on the card streaking along the passing lane with TE's Cammie for a 1:55.4 decision in a $15,000 female pace. Steve and Dave Roberto and Anthony Capone own the Grandslam Cam-TE Special eight-year-old notching her third win of the meet. Keystone Rhythm (Ross Wolfenden) was runner-up. Dill And Grace A (Mike Cole) had a tough trip but held on for third.
Hello Magic claimed out of her last start in 2009, stepped up to the $15,000 ranks and turned back eight female challengers for the daughter of Cam's Magic Trick-Samantha six-year-old's fifth win in six starts this meet as Vince Copeland steered a 1:54.4 victory. Mightymachthree (Eric Goodell) led a charge at the winner the length of the stretch and had to settle for second. West Coast Arturo (Mike Cole) finished third. (Dover Downs)
