Lonesome Day retired

The 2005 Sweetheart winner Lonesome Day p,2, 1:52.4 ($400,172) has been retired from racing after fracturing a sesamoid bone, owner Eric Cherry announced today. The 3-year-old daughter of Cambest
from the Jate Lobell mare Swifty But Nifty was the winner of $356,272 in her brilliant freshman campaign with seven victories from 10 starts.

"She was just coming around to last year's form and we were looking forward to facing the best fillies in the
country", said Cherry. "Her last mile (third in the Mistletoe Shalee final despite getting parked the mile) was by far her best performance in 2006. It's a shame but these things happen."

Lonesome Day will begin her breeding career in 2007. No stallion decision has been made at this time. (OnGait)
