Three divisions of Pennsylvania Sire Stakes for 3-year-old pacing colts were contested at The Meadows Friday afternoon and Lonestar Legend was at the front of the class with his scorching 1:50.2 victory in a $68,121 division.
With David Miller in the sulky for trainer Don Swick, Lonestar Legend started from post one and won by two lengths over Dragoon K. It was the third win in seven starts this year for the Western Hanover colt, and the time was just one-fifth of a second off his lifetime mark, which he earned by winning a Reynolds Stakes at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs two weeks earlier.
The first split on the card went to Goddess's Justin, who enjoyed a two-hole trip and then forged to the front to win in 1:52, needing only a last quarter in :28.4. It was the fifth win in 10 starts this year for Goddess's Justin, who is owned by Jacob Ramsburg and DM Stables LLC.
Ramsburg also bred the winner and campaigned his dam, the stakes-winning Yankee Goddess. Doug Snyder drove Goddess's Justin, a son of Western Hanover, and also was the regular reinsman for his dam.
A third division was won by Real Celebration, who scored by three-quarter lengths over Lisfinny in 1:51.1. Ray Paver trains, drives and co-owns the son of Real Artist.
Shadow Play, the betting favorite in the third split, broke stride at the three-quarter pole and finished fourth but was placed fifth.
