Cuzzin Sid, at odds of 25-1, came on with a late stretch surge to pass a tiring Carter In Motion and seize the $56,800 final of the Ontario Sired Spring Series for three-year-old pacers at Mohawk Friday night.

Auctioneer and Mark MacDonald broke sharply off the gate and crossed the field from post position nine for the early lead, only to be overtaken by Carter In Motion and Mario Baillargeon at the quarter pole in :27.1. Bizmizndrstnding and Jody Jamieson nestled into third through the backstretch, while Immachulate came three-wide to make a brief bid through a :55.3 half. By the three-quarter pole, Carter In Motion was beginning to flag, opening the door for Cuzzin Sid to win by a head in a lifetime-best clocking of 1:52.3.

Amillionpennies, the betting second choice, slipped into the place spot for driver Randy Waples, while Card Dealer and Jason Brewer, one and a half lengths behind, took third.

Cuzzin Sid, a gelded son of Mach Three out of the Artsplace mare, Tempting Delight, is trained by Ken Sucee for the Cuzzins Stable of Delray Beach, Florida. He sat out the opening round of the OSSS series, but was second to Bigmizndrstnding in last Friday’s second leg. This was his third win in nine sophomore starts, and his first five-digit purse score.

He paid a healthy $54.20 for the win. (WEG)
