Driver David Ingraham took advantage of five lead changes as he guided Golden Falcon N to a 13-1 upset neck victory on Friday at Pompano Park in the $10,000 featured pace for mares in 1:52.4. The race started off with Cape Cove Daisy (Gaston Lareau) taking the early lead only to give way to Catalina Morgan (Bruce Ranger) past the opening quarter in :28.4. Then it was Wally Hennessey and Stonebridge Capri first-over to take command but then Hypnotize (George Napolitano Jr.) was in high gear and on the move and they were able to take away the lead by the half-mile pole in :54.3. As the field entered the backstretch, Ingraham urged Golden Falcon N first-over and they were able to not only grind it out against Hypnotize but also take the lead at the three-quarters in a speedy 1:23.1. Up by nearly two lengths as they started down the stretch, Ingraham kept Golden Falcon N alive to the wire, holding off the late charge of 16-1 Party At Joyces (Chuck Connor Jr.) and 29-1 Brissonte Hanover (Kevin Wallis) for the victory. It was the fifth win this year for Golden Falcon N, a 9-year-old New Zealand bred mare by Falcon Seelster, who is trained by Paul Bernardo for the Berry Stables of Staten Island, N.Y. Her time of 1:52.4 tied her lifetime record and was her 23rd career win. (Pompano)
