Kentucky-based trainer Anette Lorentzon received emergency relief from the Ontario Racing Commission (ORC) that allowed her to start two horses Monday night at Mohawk despite receiving a positive test for aminorex earlier this month at Flamboro Downs.
Lorentzon’s positive came Sept. 12 on her horse Benediction Lindy. As a result, the Mohawk stewards scratched her horse Carolyn AS from an Ontario Sire Stakes Gold elimination for 3-year-old filly trotters and Logan AAS from an overnight on Monday. However, the ORC held an emergency meeting earlier in the afternoon where it was decided to allow those horses to race that night, but for purse money only.
With the horses having been taken out of the races, they then had to be re-inserted, with the stewards deciding both should start from the outside post position. With no betting allowed on either, both Logan AAS and Carolyn AS finished fifth in their respective contests. Carolyn AS’s finish earned her a spot in next Monday’s $130,000(C) Gold final, where she drew post four in the draw that was held after the two elims were held.
