Young trainer Anette Lorentzon boasts training two fillies in the Hambletonian Oaks eliminations this weekend, Fancy Vacation and There’s A Way. In only her third year of training at age 25, after working for trainers such as Jimmy Takter and Trond Smedshammer, she not only has fillies entered in this contest, but Swedish-born Lorentzon has a real chance of winning with one. Fancy Vacation, by Dream Vacation out of Francy Crown by Speedy Crown, has lightning closing speed, and that may be just the ticket to a spot in the $750,000 Hambo Oaks final. Winning two of five races so far this season, bringing her coffers to $80,898 lifetime, this filly owned by ACL Stuteri has the second fastest lifetime mark of 1:55 in her elim, only behind Takter’s Lantern Kronos whose mark is 1:54.3 and seasonal winnings add up to $381,409. “Hopefully she gets a good trip. The horse that gets the best trip will be the horse that wins the race,” said Lorentzon of racing against Lantern Kronos. Fancy Vacation is half sister to veteran trotter Kaline 1:54.1 ($456,542), and to Mystical Michelle 3, 1:56.2 ($339,116), the runner-up in the 1999 Goldsmith Maid. There’s A Way, who finished third in the Hudson Filly Trot, is Lorentzon’s entry in the second elim and is also owned by ACL Stuteri. This Credit Winner-Psychotherapist filly, unlike her stablemate, has a lifetime mark of Q 1:58.3. The one to beat for her is Snow White, who everyone will be chasing. Snow White boasts well over $1 million in lifetime earnings, while There’s A Way holds on to $113,220, the third richest filly in her elim. Lorentzon admitted, “To beat Snow White, I don’t think there’s a chance of doing it. “That’s the most important thing for me, that the horses race good and hopefully make the final,” Lorentzon concluded. While it may be a tough race for Lorentzon against Snow White, Fancy Vacation may be her fairy tale come true. After all, shouldn’t a female trainer win the filly edition of the Hambletonian?
