Lou Annie an ideal angel

Return Home
July 22, 2005 | Print View

Lou Annie captured the $17,500 Ideal Angel Stake for Illinois-bred pacing mares in 1:54.1 Thursday night at Maywood Park. Lou Annie had been sidelined since early May for her owner and trainer Jim Rowney.

"This mare was really strong tonight considering that she's been off for such a long time," driver Tim Tetrick noted. "It takes her a moment to get into gear because she's such a big striding horse and if you had to pass another horse in that first turn she might get into trouble. But she's such a classy mare that she overcomes that."

The 6-year-old daughter of Doc's Hop now has 32 career wins in 97 starts with lifetime earnings of $411,292.

"This is only the second time I've driven her," Tetrick recalled. "I drove her three years ago on Super Night, but I didn't forget her. She is a big striding mare. I yelled at her a few times in the stretch to keep her attention and to let her know that her job wasn't finished yet. That's a good mile for her having been off for so long."

Tetrick left hard with Lou Annie from the rail as did Neat Nicole (Mike Oosting) from post seven, and the latter grabbed the lead. Lou Annie was right back out of the hole and was on top to the :26.4 first quarter. From there the race was all over as Lou Annie snapped off fractions of :55.4 and 1:25.1. Neat Nicole held on for second, while CJR Bogert (Pat Wolf) was third.
