Although Loving Caroline finished second to Worldly Treasure in the second of two Sweetheart eliminations at the Meadowlands Thursday, she did so without any wagering on her after being sold after the post-position draw. Previously owned by John Liviakis, the daughter of Art Major was purchased by Eric Cherry's Mentally Stable, but remained with trainer Ross Croghan.
Mentally Stable shares ownership of Alice's Restaurant--and a Croghan trainee--who finished seventh in that elim and failed to advance to the final. Loving Caroline, driven by Daniel Dube advanced to next week's $441,750 Sweetheart final after taking runner-up honors.
Interestingly, Loving Caroline's dam, Best Laid Plans, also started in the 1999 Sweetheart elims, but failed to advance after finishing sixth in her elim. Best Laid Plans went on to earn more than $400,000 over her career, finishing second in the 2000 Jugette.
