Loyal Opposition at fair

Return Home
August 01, 2006 | Print View

Three-time Dan Patch award-winning mare Loyal Opposition was supposed to lead the post parade in Thursday’s Taser Gun Pace at the Brown County Fair in Illinois, but now she will be behind the gate as one of eight entrants in the $18,000 race.

Trainer Ervin Miller had been toying with the idea of giving the three-time Dan Patch award winner a prep start before heading to the Aged Mare pace at the Illinois State Fair.

“The folks over in Mt. Sterling have done a great job with that track and fair,” said Miller. “It’s probably the best county fair racing surface in our state. If it wasn’t that good, I would not even consider taking her there.

“She’s pretty good on a half mile track, and from her training miles, she seems to be on the right track again. She always seems to come up with little problems this time of year that we need to address, but she seems headed in the right direction again and we’ll see what happens.”

So instead of being ahead of the gate, Loyal Opposition will now leave behind it in post six. Actually, she is in one of three trailing positions as only five starters are on the gate at the fair.
