Loyal Opposition better

Trainer Erv Miller has told The Horseman Loyal Opposition is doing much better after being scratched out of the opening round of the Classic Series at Dover Downs Monday, April 11 due to a pus pocket and infection. Although the scratch let the air out of the balloon with the much-anticipated match-up against Rainbow Blue, the race resulted in a world-record 1:49.4 performance by the 2004 Horse of the Year.



"I would have liked to race, but after the way the race went, maybe I wouldn't have wanted to race," Miller said with a laugh. "The other mare (Rainbow Blue) raced giant!"



As for Loyal Opposition, the reigning Dan Patch champion among the older pacing mares, Miller said she is on the road to recovery. "A week or 10 days will tell a lot…but I think she is much better than she was," he said. "I think we're getting some of the infection out of there and she's doing well. Anytime you have a setback like that, it takes them a little time to get going again."
