Loyal Opposition wins

Loyal Opposition, last year's Dan Patch Pacing Mare of the Year, is back on track after recovering from an abcess in a foot. She won an overnight race at Balmoral Park Tuesday night in 1:51.4 with a last quarter in :27.1.



Driven by Andy Miller, Loyal Opposition started from post five but Miller had her heading to the front and took control of the race just past the first quarter was reached in :27.3. Miller then yielded to Cinder Best, who set the rest of the pace.



In the stretch drive Loyal Opposition paced up the inside to win by one-half length over Cinder Best. Parklane Powerful, who had fallen 11 1/2 lengths behind the leader at the quarter pole, rallied to finish third.



Loyal Opposition had won six of eight starts before being sidelined.
