Lucky 4 for Majestic Son?

October 25, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

When something works, you stick with it. At least that’s the reasoning behind trainer Mark Steacy selecting post four for Majestic Son in Saturday’s $500,000 Breeders Crown 3-Year-Old Colt Trot final. Steacy’s horse won his Oct. 21 elimination race from the same starting position. The connections of elim winners got to choose their posts for the final.

“It worked last week,” Steacy said to laughter at Tuesday’s draw. “He’s not real quick off the gate, but he can probably get into the race a lot easier from the middle.”

In fact, Majestic Son’s last two Ontario Sire Stakes Gold final victories, on Oct. 6 and Sept. 2, have come from post four. The horse won his Breeders Crown elim by two lengths over Berto Primo in 1:55.4, bouncing back from going offstride in the OSS Super Final on Oct. 14.

“He was very good,” Steacy said about Majestic Son’s elimination race. “He had a nice race where he didn’t have to stress too much. They went a comfortable speed; that should keep him fresh and braver for this week.”

Majestic Son, who won the Canadian Trotting Classic in September, was made 6-5 in the morning line while chief rival Glidemaster, the other Breeders Crown elim winner, was made even money after selecting post two for the final. (From BC)
