June 19, 2009 | Print View

Lucky Jim, the top-ranked Standardred in 2009, made a break in a qualifier at the Meadowlands Friday morning, the first appearance for the trotter since winning the $250,000 Maxie Lee Memorial May 31 at Harrah’s Chester. The 4-year-old son of SJ’s Photo has won all 12 of his pari-mutuel starts this year for earnings of $394,325.

The Mike Lachance-driven Lanson, who earlier this year won the $123,000 Su Mac Lad final at the Big M, led the qualifier through first-half fractions of :28 and :56.1, while Andy Miller sat second with Lucky Jim. Reaching three quarters in 1:25.3, Lucky Jim made a break while on the move. Lanson went on to cross the wire in 1:52.2, finishing 18 ½ lengths ahead of runner-up Lotsa Speed NZ, with Lucky Jim a distant 33 lengths back in third.
