Lucky Jim kept his perfect 2009 record intact as he breezed to his seventh straight win in a $20,000 Father Foley Series leg Thursday night at the Meadowlands, scoring in 1:54.
Lucky Jim assumed command from Wind Surfer in a :28.1 opening quarter and eased through fractions of :57.3 and 1:26.4. Driven by Andy Miller, Lucky Jim paid $2.40 to win the featured third race. Swan Image was 2 3-4 lengths behind, while Wind Surfer held third. Undefeated since entering the barn of trainer Julie Miller this winter, Lucky Jim will bid for his second series crown in the $45,000 Father Foley Final next Thursday, April 30. He equaled the 1:51.3 world record for a 4-year-old trotting gelding on a mile track shared by Flamewalker and Corleone Kosmos on March 8. A week later, Lucky Jim completed a sweep of the Horse & Groom Series with a 1:53 stakes record effort in the $96,000 final. A son of SJ’s Photo-Hawaiian Sierra, Lucky Jim has now won nine of 27 career starts and $216,203 for owners David and John Prushnok and William Gregg. Lucky Jim is eligible to the Classic Series (May 1), Arthur J. Cutler Memorial (May 16) and Titan Cup (June 26) at the Meadowlands. (Meadowlands)
