Lucky Jim equaled the world record for a 4-year-old trotting gelding on a mile track with a dazzling 1:51.3 mile in the $20,000 second leg of the Horse & Groom Series on Sunday afternoon at the Meadowlands.

Lucky Jim sat far off the early pace set by Sauce Two K and Knight Of Intrigue (27.1, 55.2, 1:21.1), circled three-wide on the final turn and steamrolled past the field to remain undefeated in five starts this season.

Lucky Jim equaled the marks of Flamewalker (May 25, 2007), also campaigned by the husband-and-wife team of driver Andy Miller and trainer Julie Miller, and Corleone Kosmos (July 22, 2006).  He returned a $2.60 win mutuel.

Lucky Jim is a 4-year-old SJ’s Photo gelding out of the Sierra Kosmos mare Hawaiian Sierra. He was bred by Bill Troyer of Ohio and is owned by David Prushnock, John Prushnok, William Gregg and Lindwood Farm. In addition to his new world record, Lucky Jim has now won seven of 25 career starts and $158,203. His previous best time was 1:53.2, which he posted the previous week at the Meadowlands in the Horse & Groom Series. Last year Lucky Jim was winless in eight starts.

Shoeless White Sox rallied from second over to stop Rompaway Alvin by a length in the second Horse & Groom division.  The striking chestnut with white markings trotted the mile in 1:53.1 with George Brennan in the sulky.  Mark Harder trains the 4-year-old homebred son of Mr Lavec-Northern Style for owner Chris Alexander of Aurora, Ontario.

The $96,000 Horse & Groom Final is Sunday, March 15. (Meadowlands)
