April 02, 2010 Send To A Friend  | Print View

The 2009 Older Trotter of the Year Lucky Jim got a stern test from the 2008 Older Trotter of the Enough Talk but the current reigning champion held off his rival down the stretch to score a 1:52.1 victory in the opening round of the Su Mac Lad Series Friday night at the Meadowlands.

The "Clash of the Titans' lived up to its billing as the two trotting heavyweights traded blows throughout the mile and then the millionaires dueled side by side down the latter portion of the stretch. Lucky Jim, driven by Andy Miller, and Enough Talk, handled by Ron Pierce. swapped the lead early in the mile but heading into the final turn it was Lucky Jim who had Enough Talk tucked in the pocket.

Midway down the stretch Pierce angled Enough Talk off the pylons to take aim at Lucky Jim, but Miller kept his 5-year-old SJ's Photo gelding to task and he fought off the determined by Enough Talk by about a head. Likeabatoutahell was open lenghs behind in third.

Both Lucky Jim and Enough Talk won their 2010 debuts, which set the stage for the early-season showdown in the $50,000 Su Mac Lad opener. The win was the fourth straight for Lucky Jim, dating back to 2009, a year in which he won 17 of 18 starts overall for trainer Julie Miller and owners David and John Prushnok and William Gregg.
