Lydia Brown dies

Lydia Brown, the wife of former Blue Chip Farms general manager and Living Hall of Fame member William S. Brown, died Saturday, April 7, in Kingston, N.Y. She was 78.

Mrs. Brown's daughter, Grace "Jean," is the senior vice president of operations for Blue Chip Farms in Wallkill, N.Y., and her son, Steve, is the stallion manager. Another son, Mark, manages Saddle Creek Farm in Virginia.

The daughter of Thomas Porter and Roberta Bond Neet, Mrs. Brown was born March 15, 1929, in Versailles, Ky., She later attended the University of Kentucky for a degree in journalism.

A family statement reads, "Her love and her life was her family. She welcomed all who visited with an open heart."

Besides her husband, daughter and two sons, Mrs. Brown is also survived by a stepson, Daniel; grandchildren Samuel Brown, Matthew Brown, Justin Brown, Ryan Ulrich and Rani Ulrich; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers, Tom and John Neet.

Services are scheduled to be held Wednesday, April 11, at the Wallkill Funeral Home in Wallkill, N.Y. Burial will be in Lebanon Cemetery in Lebanon, Ohio, Mrs. Brown's hometown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, N.Y. 10018, or Hospice of Duchess-Ulster, 30 and 34 Broadway, Kingston, N.Y. 12401.
