Mac Action to post parade

June 30, 2006 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Mac Action, who won the 1997 edition of the Titan Cup, will lead the post parade for Saturday night’s $200,000 Titan Cup Final at the Meadowlands Now 16, Mac Action retired in 2003 with 46 wins, 32 seconds and 26 thirds from 180 starts with earnings of $489,470. He took his lifetime mark of 1:53 in winning the Titan Cup, which was then a $40,000 invitational. His mile stood as the stakes record until Fool’s Goal trotted to victory in 1:51.3 in 2002 and Mr Muscleman matched that time in 2005.

“He’s a permanent resident at my house [in Millstone, New Jersey],” said trainer Kevin McDermott, who will parade the horse before the sixth race on Saturday night, when contacted on Friday morning. “My daughter, Caitlin [11 years old] shows him under saddle. When I’m bored, I’ll take him out and jog him. I just jogged him five minutes ago. He’s still a lunatic

“It was Caitlin’s idea three years ago to have him lead post parade,” McDermott noted. “She’s the owner of record on him. He still thinks he’s a racehorse.

“He’s a horse you have to love,” said McDermott, who has 12 horses in training and a Thoroughbred making his next start in Saturday’s second race at Monmouth Park. “The Amish gave up on him and he was bought for $5,000 and he came back after breaking down three times. His track record of 1:56 at Harrington is still the record.

“I know this is a business but you still have to love the animals, and Mac Action is one of those horses I knew I had to provide a home for,” he added. “And he still gets his jelly donuts every day.” (Meadowlands press release)
