MacDonald returns to Woodbine action Thursday

Return Home
February 28, 2008 Send To A Friend  | Print View

Two-time O'Brien Award winner Mark MacDonald will make his return to racing action Thursday night at Woodbine with four drives on the 11-race program. It will mark the first time he's seen pari-mutuel action since Jan. 26 when he was sidelined by a chronic shoulder ailment.

Although some experts had recommended surgery for what is known as a posterior dislocation, the 29-year-old reinsman opted instead for an intensive routine of physiotherapy and rehab exercises to get the shoulder back into shape.

The native of Charlottetown also missed some time early in 2007, but that didn't stop him from charging all the way back to the top of the WEG standings by season's end.

He ended the year with more than $7.6 million(C) in overall earnings. Some of the highlights included piloting Moving Pictures to wins in the Roses Are Red Stakes, the Milton Stakes and the Breeders Crown. He also brought O'Brien Award finalist Chancey Lady home first in the Ontario Sires Stakes Super Final.

MacDonald is listed to drive four starters Thursday, including Southwind Renata who competes in the second leg of the General Brock Trotting Series which goes in a pair of divisions. (WEG)
