Mack Lobell divisions held

Buck I St. Pat tallied her first win of the year, while Indian Hill Rocket got his picture taken for the fourth time this season, after capturing their respective $17,500 divisions of the opening leg of the Mack Lobell Trotting Series at Pompano Park on Monday.

Starting from post four with Ricky Macomber Jr. at the lines, Buck I St. Pat wasted little time seizing control of her Mack Lobell division, charging confidently to the front on the first turn before carving out fractions of :27.4, :59, and 1:27.2.

The 5-year-old daughter of Jailhouse Jesse entered the stretch with a 1 ¾-length advantage, and was never presented with a challenge down the lane, opening up on her overmatched rivals in the final yards to prevail by 3 ½ lengths in 1:54.4, with a final quarter-mile that was clocked in :27.2.

Owned by Howard Taylor, Edwin Gold, Abraham Basen, and Ron Fuller, and trained by Mickey Burke, Buck I St. Pat has visited the winner’s circle in 22 of her 44 lifetime starts, including a victory in the $250,000 Classic Oaks at Mohawk last year.

Two races later, Yvette Prudenzano and Basil Kellis’ Indian Hill Rocket stormed down the center of the track to capture the second division of the opening leg of the Mack Lobell Trotting Series in 1:55.1.

Driven from post one by Kevin Wallis, Indian Hill Rocket settled in the pocket through the early stages of the race before being shuffled back to fourth as first Railee Possible (Dan Clements), and then Gale Warning (Wally Hennessey), showed the way through fractions of :28.1, :57.4, and 1:25.4.

Gale Warning entered the lane with a half-length lead, but was quickly overtaken by Cisco Hall (George Napolitano Jr.), who in turn yielded the top spot Railee Possible, who was unsuccessful in fending off the late charge of Indian Rocket, as the Linda Wallis trainee got up in the final yards to score by a neck.

The $100,000 Mack Lobell Trotting Series will continue with the $25,000 second leg on Feb. 25, with the $50,000 final slated for March 3. (Pompano Park)
