Mack Lobell field assembled

Tweedle Dum, who equaled the world record for older geldings on a five-eighths mile track when taking the $15,000 Mack Lobell Preview in 1:53.2 in his last start, headlines a field of 10 trotters assembled for the $25,000 first leg of the Mack Lobell Trotting Series, which goes as the fourth race on the Friday program from Pompano Park.

Owned by Diane Norris and Alfred Brotter of Pompano Beach, Tweedle Dum added his name to the harness racing record books on Feb. 2, when the son of Star Challenge trotted a mile in 1:53.2, matching the world record set in Sweden by Victory Tilly in 2000 and later equaled by Abbey Road C at Georgian Downs in 2004.

Tweedle Dum has visited the winner’s circle in 21 of his last 25 starts, and enters the first leg of the Mack Lobell Trotting Series as the fastest trotter in the 43-year history of Pompano Park. The 7-year-old gelding has been installed as the 3-5 morning-line favorite in the Friday feature and will start from post seven. Walter Ross Jr. will be at the lines for trainer Gordon Norris.

Drawing the rail for the first leg of the Mack Lobell Trotting Series is the 8-year-old veteran gelding Dink Adoo. With over $608,000 in career earnings, the son of Inquirer is the top money winner in the field. In 2006, the gelding banked $212,751 while visiting the winner’s circle 15 times, with a second-place finish in the $105,000 Dygert final at Hawthorne, and a third-place effort in the $200,000 American National final at Balmoral Park.

In his most recent start, Dink Adoo crossed the wire sixth in the $76,075 Glorys Comet final at Woodbine. Listed as the 4-1 second choice in the morning line, Dink Adoo will be driven from the inside post by Wally Hennessey.

The 5-year-old mare Victor’s Pursuit will make her first pari-mutuel start in nearly six months in Friday’s first leg of the Mack Lobell Trotting Series. She is the only mare entered in the race and will take on a field of male rivals.

The daughter of Valley Victor was named Illinois’ top sophomore filly trotter in 2005 after banking $203,256 in her 3-year-old campaign, but raced just 15 times in 2006, closing out her season with three wins in her last four outings. The mare’s last appearance came on Aug. 14 at Springfield where she won an Illinois conceived-and-foaled stakes event in 1:55.4.

The John Duer trainee has made two appearances in Pompano qualifiers since shipping to South Florida, most recently winning her heat in 2:00.3 on Feb. 2. Victor’s Pursuit has drawn post four for Friday’s race and will be driven by Steve Condren.

Muscular, who defeated Tweedle Dum two starts ago in a $10,000 Open Handicap, returns for the first leg of the Mack Lobell Trotting Series after making a break and finishing last in the Preview. Dave Mercer, who owns and trains the son of Muscles Yankee, will handle the driving assignment from post three

The Mack Lobell Trotting Series continues with the $25,000 second leg on Feb. 16 and will culminate with the $75,000 added final on Feb. 24. (Pompano Park)
