Driven from post four by Kevin Wallis, Indian Hill Rocket showed the way through an opening quarter mile in :27.3 before contently yielding the top spot to Railee Possible (Dan Clements), who carved out middle fractions of :57 and 1:25.1. “That horse that Dan Clements drove is a pretty good horse,” Wallis said following the victory. “And I didn’t have any qualms about letting him go to the front, and following him for most of the mile.” Railee Possible entered the stretch with a one-length advantage, but drifted out in the lane, providing a path for Indian Hill Rocket to march through. Seizing that opportunity, the son of Corleone charged directly to the front, pulling clear in the final yards to prevail by 1 ¾ lengths. “I knew that Dan’s horse normally drifts out in the stretch, and you can usually get a way through when you follow him,” Wallis said. Dunkster (Bill O’Donnell), who was parked the entire mile, closed down the center of the track to finish second. Railee Possible crossed the wire third, but was disqualified to fourth for interfering with Rompaway Wally (Don Harmon), who was subsequently placed third. “My horse has been improving all the time, and he felt really good tonight,” Wallis added. “He has steadily gotten better since we got him in the fall, right up through now.” Owned by Yvette Prudenzano and Basil Kellis, and trained by Linda Wallis, Indian Hill Rocket has prevailed in five of seven starts this year, including a victory in a division of the first leg of the Mack Lobell on February 18. The $50,000 Mack Lobell Trotting Series final will be contested at Pompano Park on Monday, March 3. (Pompano Park)
